Kickoff of 2025 Reciclatrón in Mexico City

The Secretariat of the Environment (Sedema) of Mexico City announced that on Thursday, January 30, and Friday, January 31, the first edition of 2025 Reciclatrón will take place. The event will be held in the parking lot of Universum at Ciudad Universitaria from 09:00 to 16:00.

The General Directorate of Coordination of Environmental Policies and Culture (DGCPCA) emphasized that the purpose of this initiative is to encourage city residents and businesses to separate electronic waste for proper recycling. According to DGCPCA, the objective is "to contribute to the conservation of natural resources and biodiversity, as well as the mitigation of climate change in the city, extending the useful life of electronic waste, providing materials for recycling, and the production of new components."

Among the items that will be accepted during the Reciclatrón are aluminum, copper, plastic, iron, glass, electronic cards, data processing units, monitors (LCD), computing equipment, household appliances, cell phones, and video games.

It is estimated that approximately 320.6 tons of electrical and electronic waste are generated daily in Mexico City, making the sustainable management of these elements critically important.

The Reciclatrón is a joint effort between Sedema and various educational and governmental institutions such as the Metropolitan Autonomous University (UAM), the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN), the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), the Autonomous University of Mexico City (UACM), Ibero-American University, Instituto Mora, and the Higher School of Physical Education (ESEF), as well as local government and the Mexican Chamber of the Construction Industry (CMIC).

The Reciclatrón is a traveling project that takes place every month in different areas of the city, and the dates and locations of the events are announced in both official media and on the Sedema website.
